Education
The Dickenson County Litter and Recycling Office promotes litter
prevention and recycling programs to every student within the county.
Students receive litter bags, pencils, pencil sharpeners and
rulers. To encourage students and the schools to promote
anti-litter efforts, the Dickenson County Litter Control and Recycling
office conducts the School Beautiful Program. This program covers
cleanliness, beautification of the school grounds and much more…
Beginning in 2008, a new program is being promoted within the schools:
Plastic Bag Recycling Roundup. Schools will compete for the
honor of recycling the most plastic bags and prizes. Each Fall
6th grade student participate in the Groundwater Festival held at the
Breaks Interstate Park. Stations are designed to meet the
Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL’s).
The Dickenson County Litter and Recycling office has purchased a mobile
recycling trailer. This will be rotated to each of the county
high schools-week by week. In addition to promoting the schools
to recycle, we are encouraging citizens living near the high school to
take advantage of being able to deposit their recyclables in the mobile
recycling trailer. Please look for a blue recycling trailer.

The Dickenson County Litter and Recycling office will be utilizing a
regional mobile recycling Education trailer during the month of
October. Each elementary school will have access to this mobile
education trailer 1 to 2 days. This trailer has video on
recycling, displays on materials that students and their families can
recycle. The Litter and Recycling offfice plans to distribute brochures
and educational materials to all of the counties elementary students.
